Tallahassee, FL – The Social Security Administration has initiated a new program to fast track applications for 100% disabled veterans.  This fast-track program will speed up the disability application process for veterans who have a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) disability compensation rating of 100% Permanent & Total (P&T). This new program will treat veterans as high priority and will speed up the decision making process. Please note that while this program does speed up the application process, it does not guarantee an approval for your disability benefits from Social Security.

Both Department of Veterans Affairs and Social Security Administration provide benefits, but their procedural processes for receiving benefits are very different. You must have a VA compensation rating of 100% P&T to get into the fast-track program for veterans, but as noted before, you still may not meet Social Security’s definition of disabled. To qualify for Social Security benefits you must be unable to do substantial work because of your medical condition(s) and your medical condition(s) must have lasted, or be expected to last, at least one year or to result in death.

If you already receive compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs, this will not affect your Social Security Benefits.  However, when we apply or appeal a denial of benefits for a Veteran, we will have the application fast-tracked under the new program when applicable.
